HON. WILLIAM RUTO JOINS KENYANS IN ITALY IN CELEBRATING
MADARAKA DAY
The Minister for Agriculture Hon. William Ruto yesterday joined
hundreds of Kenyans at the grounds of Instituto Salesiano on via
Prenestina in Rome celebrating the 45th Madaraka Anniversary.
The Hon. Minister who had just jetted in from
Japan where he attended the 4th International Conference on Africa
Development (TICAD) as a member of the Presidential Delegation
was delighted to interact and engage with the Kenyans under the
warm Italian early summer weather.
The event which was organized by the Kenya Embassy
in Rome in conjunction with the Association of Kenyans in Italy
was also graced by the presence of H.E Mrs. Ann B. Nyikuli.
In his brief speech to those gathered, the Hon.
Minister brought greetings from Kenya stressing the importance
of unity and expressing optimism in Kenya’s development
under the Grand Coalition. He further expressed satisfaction to
the strong role played by Kenyans in the Diaspora in the development
of the country and encouraged them to remain focused in all their
endeavors abroad.
In welcoming the Hon. Minister, H.E. The Ambassador
expressed appreciation to Kenyans for their steadfast commitment
to the Development of the country and for the unity if purpose
which is more evident than before. Her statement echoed sentiments
of her message to H.E. The President on the occasion of Madaraka
Day celebrations. She acknowledged the presence of several Italian
tour operators and NGOs who work in Kenya. She informed of the
Embassy’s efforts in conjunction with the Kenya Tourism
Board and Italian tour operators in spearheading fresh media campaigns
in promoting Kenya as the preferred tourist destination. Indeed,
a commercial clip on Kenya was aired on Italian national TV from
25th May – 1st June, 2008.
Hon. W. Ruto is in Rome leading Kenya’s
delegation to the ‘High Level Conference on World Food Security
and the Challenges of Climate Change and Bio-energy’ from
3-5th June, 2008. In the delegation is Hon. Dr. Naomi Shaban,
Minister for Special Programmes, Kenya’s Ambassador to Italy
and several senior Government officials. The two Ministers will
also hold bilateral discussions with the FAO Director General,
the Executive Director of WFP and the President of the International
Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD).
