At
the invitation of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hon.
R. Onyonka, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs visited Greece
from 11th – 13th May, 2008. The Assistant Minister had
been invited to attend the Africa Day Conference whose theme
was “Africa and Greece: Prospects of Economic Cooperation
and Development”
The Hon. Assistant Minister delivered a statement urging Greek
entrepreneurs to invest in Kenya. On the fringes of the Conference,
Hon. Onyonka held a meeting with his Greek counterpart Hon.
Petros Doukas in which they discussed key bilateral issues between
Kenya and Greece, emphasising on the need to enhance the trade/economic
ties. To augment these ties, it was recommended that a ‘Kenya
Week in Greece’ event to be held in November/December,
2008.
During the two day visit the Hon. Assistant Minister Onyonka
had the occasion to meet and address Kenya nationals in Greece.
He encouraged them to focus on development in Kenya stressed
on the importance of Kenyans in the Diaspora.
The Assistant Minister was accompanied by; 1. Dr. J. Sang –
Acting Head/Europe and Commonwealth, 2. Mr. S.K. Maina –
1st Counsellor, Kenya Embassy, 3. Mr. L. Muganda – from
the Economic Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.’
