The
Embassy together with entrepreneurs from Kenya took part in
the just concluded Bari International Fair. The Kenya delegation
to the International Fair was led by H. E. Ann Belinda Nyikuli.
The Levante International
Trade Fair, the most important one in South Italy, is held annually
in September in Bari. The event is officially opened by the
Prime Minster who delivers a key note address on the status
of the economy and indicative economic policies for the current
fiscal year. Apart from the Prime Minister, the entire cabinet
attends, invited foreign dignitaries, Puglia regional leaders
and senior officials and the diplomatic corp.
The Fair also provides
a forum for the business community and Embassies to show-case
and / or sell goods and services in their respective countries.
Embassies also endeavour to sell their respective countries
as investment destination.
The Embassy, one
of the pioneer African participants in the fair that continues
to draw a big following from all continents, worked hand in
hand with the Kenyan entrepreneurs who had brought merchandise
for sale. There were more than 15 Kenyan entrepreneurs some
of whom were sponsored by the Kenya Chamber of Commerce &
Industry while others were self sponsored.

KENYA PARTICIPATES IN THE MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONTACT
GROUP ON SOMALIA
The
Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Kembi Gitura, MP,
led the Kenya Government delegation to the meeting of the International
Contact Group on Somalia which was held on 10th September, 2007
in Rome. The Assistant Minister was accompanied by H. E. Ambassador
Ann Belinda Nyilkuli, Ambassadors designate T. B. Amolo and
Director for Political Affairs, Robert Ngesu, Head of Horn of
Africa, Ministry Headquarters, Mr. Ken. Vitisia, Charge d’Affaires,
Kenya Embassy to Somalia and Mr. John Wambua, Kenya Embassy,
Rome
The meeting, organized
by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Italy, brought together
development cooperation partners as well as Countries from the
Horn of Africa that are seized with the Somalia Peace process.
Participants agreed to reinvigorate the Somalia Peace process,
in particular prioritise the involvement of the UN Security
Council in assisting bring peace in the war-torn country.

JOINT
STEARING COMMITTEE ON SAN MARCO MEETS IN ROME
The
Joint Steering Committee (JSC) on the San Marco Project met
in Rome on 10th – 11th September, 2007.San Marco Project
is a bilateral endeavour that focuses on economic, technical
and development cooperation. The Kenya delegation which was
led by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of State for Defence,
Zackary N. Mwaura included, Permanent Secretaries Eng. David
Stower, Ministry of Regional Development Authorities, Prof.
Crispus M. Kiamba, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science
&Technology, H. E. Ambassador Ann Belinda Nyikuli and senior
Government officials.
The meeting brought together senior government officials from
Kenya and Italy and reviewed the status of the bilateral project
located in Malindi and agreed on the way forward for the mutual
benefit of both countries.
