THE L’AQUILA EARTHQUAKE
As you are aware, a massive earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale shook Central Italy on the morning of 6th April 2009. The epicentre was the old town of L’Aquila.
The earthquake resulted in about 180 deaths, many injured and properties destroyed.
Currently, the Mission is not aware of any Kenyan(s) affected by the earthquake. This has been attested to by the Protezione Civile. We are however appealing to those Kenyans who have not registered with the Mission to do so. The relevant Registration Form is available at this site and on www.kenyansinitaly.it.
Thank you for your cooperation.

H.E. THE AMBASSADOR’S MESSAGE OF APPRECIATION
I wish to take this opportunity to express on behalf of the members of staff of the Kenya Embassy in Rome my profound gratitude to you fellow Kenyans and esteemed members of the Diaspora in general and Rome in particular for the very strong show of solidarity and patriotism on the occasion of Kenya’s victorious run at the 15th Edition of the Rome Marathon on Sunday 22nd March, 2009.
Indeed, your presence along the Marathon route and at the start and finish line on a cold crisp morning served to strengthen and ensure our Athletes maintained the stamina that led to victorious finish and sweep of the medals(First to Eleventh position) led by Mr. Benjamin Kiptoo Kolum who broke the 5 year Marathon record, in 2 hrs 7 mins and 17 seconds. With this Record, Rome Marathon has become the fastest Marathon in Italy.
Our beloved country was indeed honoured by the Rome Marathon leadership fraternity by inviting Hon. Najib Balala, Minister for Tourism as Chief Guest at the event and the only foreign country to exhibit at the Marathon Village at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Eur.
It is our patriotic responsibility to promote this spirit of oneness across the spectra in order to secure Kenya’s future.
Once again ASANTENI SANA, NA MUNGU AWABARIKI! |
