EADB was established in
1967 with its headquarters in Kampala, Uganda. Its mandate
and role were reviewed in 1980 and its operational scope expanded.
The bank's shareholding
is held primarily by the governments of Kenya, Uganda and
Tanzania. The EADB provides medium and long-term loans designated
in foreign currencies. EADB finances projects and offers a
broader range of financial services in the member states with
a view to strengthening regional economic cooperation.

The PTA Bank was established
in November 1985 to provide financial and technical assistance
to projects and trade activities which have the potential
of promoting economic growth and integration in the COMESA
sub-region. The PTA Bank provides financial resources to both
public and private sector projects in manufacturing, agro-industry,
mining, infrastructure and tourism.
