KENYAN PASSPORT AND TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
General Information
- Carefully go through the requirements as outlined in the below.
- The embassy is no longer accepting payment for postage. Documents can be collected personally or by courier ( Airwaybill label has to be sent by email to the Embassy).
- ALL passport applications must be recommended by a Kenyan passport/National ID card holder, who is not a relative on section 7 of the application form.
- All passport applications must include a copy of the Kenya National Identity Card (ID) of the applicant (from the age of 18) or the Kenyan parent (for children under 18).
- All applicants who have other acquired other nationalities MUST declare their dual nationality within 3 months of becoming a dual national in accordance to Section 8(3) of the Immigration and Citizenship Act, 2011.
- Kenyan passport holders are advised to apply for a passport replacement at least six months before expiry.
- Children are no longer endorsed in parent’s passports.
- Passports are no longer renewed by stamping.
Notes for Photographs
Kindly ensure that photos attached on the application form have the following:
- Be clear photos – they should not be blurred nor have a dark hue, all facial features should be clearly outlined
- Have a full face and both ears showing
- Be taken against a white background
- Be without shadows in the background
- No smiling or laughing
- Be taken without spectacles
- Size of the face should be 2.5 (two and a half) inches by 2 inches
- Weaves and hair should not cover the forehead or the rest of the face
- Decent photos – ladies should not be wearing strapless tops
- Attach at least 3 photos
Replacement of an expired Passport/Filled up passport
Requirements
- Duly filled passport application form 19, Click to download form
- The original expired passport/filled up passport,
- A copy of the new generation Identity Card (front and back)
- 4 coloured, passport size photographs,
- The Application must be recommended in section ‘7’ by a citizen of Kenya personally acquainted with the applicant, but not by immediate relatives.
- The recommender must attach a copy of his/her National ID or passport.
- Processing fee: € 60 for 32 pgs; €75 for 48 pgs and € 90 for 64pgs
- The Application can be personally delivered to the Embassy, or by a courier.
- Note that the Embassy is not accepting postage fee.
Replacement of a lost passport
Requirements
- Duly filled passport application form 19, Click to download form
- Letter explaining how, where and when the passport got lost.
- Declaration for lost/damaged passport form (click to download form)
- Police abstract
- A notarised affidavit detailing the circumstances under which the loss occurred
- A copy of the Kenyan Identity Card (front and back)
- 4 coloured passport size photographs,
- Copy of the lost passport.
- The Application must be recommended in section ‘7’ by a citizen of Kenya personally acquainted with the applicant, but not by immediate relatives.
- The recommender must attach a copy of his/her National ID or passport
- Translation fee of €20 if the police abstract is in Italian. For payment click here

Replacement of a damaged passport
Requirements

- The damaged passport,
- 4 coloured passport size photographs,
- Letter explaining how, where and when the passport got damaged.
- A notarised affidavit detailing the circumstances under which the damage occurred.
- The Application must be recommended in section ‘7’ by a citizen of Kenya personally acquainted with the applicant, but not by immediate relatives.
- The recommender must attach a copy of his/her National ID or passport
- Translation fee of €20 if the notarized affidavit is in Italian. For payment click here

Application for a passport for a Child
Requirements
- Duly filled passport application form 19 Click to download form
- Parental consent form duly completed (click to download form)
- 4 photographs (studio taken with a white back ground, 2 x 1.5 inches and indicate the name of the child behind the photo)
- Photocopy of the father’s and mother’s passport
- Original foreign birth certificate indicating the names of father and mother(Estratto di nascita) for applicants residing in Italy) OR Plurilingual birth certificate
- NB: Kenyan nationals in Greece, Cyprus, Poland and Malta are required to submit the original birth certificate with an authenticated English translation of the same.
- The Application must be recommended in section ‘7’ by a citizen of Kenya personally acquainted with the applicant, but not by immediate relatives.
- The recommender must attach a copy of his/her National ID or passport.
- € 20 translation fee if the birth certificate is in Italian language .

Emergency travel document
An “Emergency Certificate” is a one-way travel document which is issued to Kenyan nationals who do not have a valid passport at the time when they wish to travel to Kenya. This document is merely intended to facilitate travel to Kenya, and does not allow for a return journey. The person to whom it was issued must, therefore, obtain a valid Kenyan passport during their stay in Kenya, so as to ensure that they can actually leave Kenya again.

- Proof of Kenyan citizenship i.e. copy of lost/expired Kenyan Passport.
- Police Report if passport is lost
- Confirmed flight booking/ticket
